Get to know me

Emma Kenmuir, BSc (Hons), MBACP

I am a qualified Counsellor and Psychotherapist and a registered member (MBACP) of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. I currently work at the University of Derby as a Peer Assisted Learning (PAL) Leader, supporting first-year and foundation students studying Counselling and Psychotherapy.

I hold a Bachelor of Science with Honours in Counselling and Psychotherapy and will soon begin an MSc in Behaviour Change at the University of Derby. My studies will focus on understanding habits, emotional regulation, and coping behaviours, with a particular interest in how shame can keep people stuck in patterns they are trying to change. This will further deepen my knowledge and enhance my work as a psychotherapist.

As a Humanistic therapist, I draw on a range of therapeutic approaches, including Person-Centred Therapy, Gestalt, Existential Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Transactional Analysis. This enables me to tailor my approach to meet each individual client’s specific needs.

I am committed to ongoing professional development and regularly attend clinical supervision in line with the BACP Ethical Framework to ensure the highest standards of care.
