Get to know me
Emma Kenmuir, BSc (Hons), MBACP
I am a qualified Counsellor and Psychotherapist and a registered member (MBACP) of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. I currently work at the University of Derby as a Peer Assisted Learning (PAL) Leader, supporting level 3 and 4 Counselling and Psychotherapy students.
I hold a Bachelor of Science with Honours in Counselling and Psychotherapy and will soon begin studying a Master of Science in Behaviour Change at the University of Derby. My studies will focus on understanding habits, emotional regulation, and coping behaviours, with a particular interest in how shame can keep people stuck in patterns they are trying to change. This will further deepen my knowledge and enhance my work as a psychotherapist.
As a Humanistic therapist, I draw on a range of therapeutic approaches, including Person-Centred Therapy, Gestalt, Existential Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Transactional Analysis. This enables me to tailor my approach to meet each client’s specific needs.
I am committed to ongoing professional development and regularly attend clinical supervision in line with the BACP Ethical Framework to ensure the highest standards of care.
