The self-help bookshelf

Turning pages, transforming lives.

Welcome to the self-help bookshelf.

A therapeutic book club with a difference

I created The Self-Help Bookshelf to bring together three of my favourite things: reading, reflective conversation, and the magic of a therapeutic process group.

Following the success of our launch group, a profoundly thoughtful, kind, and inspiring space, I’m delighted to welcome new members to join the next round.

This isn’t your typical book club. It’s a small, reflective group space where we use powerful books to gently explore how we think, feel, and relate to ourselves, to others, and the world. Think of it as a blend of personal development, shared insight, and the slow, grounded magic of a therapeutic process group.

We don’t just read self-help books — we use them as springboards for honest reflection and meaningful change.

What is The Self-Help Bookshelf?

The Self-Help Bookshelf is a therapeutic book club, rooted in the principles of group therapy but shaped by the accessible, relatable language of self-help. We meet weekly to discuss a chapter or two, but more importantly, we meet to reflect together.

Each session invites you to slow down, notice what’s resonating, and share what’s landing for you. That might include what you’re learning, what’s challenging, or what you’re beginning to long for. It’s a space for personal insight, grounded in the here and now — not intended for processing deep trauma, but one where emotion is welcome and vulnerability is honoured.

You’re welcome to speak from your own experience, or simply to listen and take it in. There’s no pressure, only gentle encouragement.

How it works

Each group runs for 8 weeks, with weekly 1-hour sessions in a small group of no more than 6 people. You’ll read 1–2 chapters each week, and come ready to reflect, share, or simply be present.

Every session includes:

A grounding check-in, inviting you to arrive just as you are

A facilitated reflective discussion based on the week’s reading

A check-out, offering space to notice what’s shifted or what you’re carrying forward

We speak from the “I” (e.g., I noticed…, This part stayed with me), take turns without interrupting, and hold each other’s words in confidence. And if there’s silence, that’s okay too. This group doesn’t need to be rushed or filled; often, those quiet moments are when things really land.

What People Are Saying

Joining the Self-Help Bookshelf has been a heartfelt, meaningful experience. It’s helped me find the courage to show up as my authentic, imperfect self and to feel okay with that. The group’s gentle support and thoughtful conversations have made me feel deeply seen and heard. If you want a safe, caring space to connect and grow, I can’t recommend it enough.

Before joining The Self-Help Bookshelf, I didn’t realise how much I needed a space like this — somewhere to pause, reflect, and connect with others who are also figuring things out. Each week felt like a little exhale. The conversations were so thoughtful and validating, and I always left feeling a bit lighter and more grounded. It’s been such a nourishing experience, and I’d wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone looking for gentle support and meaningful connection.

This space is for you if…

  • You love self-help books but want to go deeper than solo reading
  • You’re craving authentic conversation and reflection
  • You’re ready to explore your inner world in a supportive group setting
  • You want a space that’s real, not perfect

No matter your level of experience. Whether you’re new to therapy, a seasoned self-reflector, or just curious, you’re warmly welcome.

Come as you are.
This isn’t about getting it right — it’s about getting real.
Just a space to be curious, open, and supported.
